" This painting has definite Chagall influences and the “crown of thorns “ on the heads represent the sorrows while the bouquets of flowers bursting through is the joy of love and unity. The two figures face away from each other but ultimately they embrace. The stain glass like faces have a carnival quality to them, almost like the masks we wear at times to conceal our fear and sadness. It dawned on me later that this theme is not specific to my family and that it relates to all of us. After all, none of us are immune to great pain or loss, while we hope for the elation and relief of happiness or joy and some ray of hope to ease our burdens."

About the Author
John Keaton is an internationally known artist, illustrator and designer. He is a master at creating atmosphere and his works convey deep emotions. His style ranges from the highly realistic to the broad abstract, each image is a highly refined and compelling entity unto itself. Keaton’s subjects include intense portraits of children, incredibly detailed exotic flowers and emotive Native American and Mexican inspired works. He utilizes a variety of mediums: pencil, ink, oil and acrylic, but is also capable of creating digital artwork and combining the traditional with the computer. John is a member of the Artist Rights Society of New York City and his works continue to delight and inspire a worldwide audience. He resides in Pennsylvania with his family.
