Psalms

The Pattern Something wonderful is happening. The Book of Psalms is showing it prophetic for our time. The verses that often seem disjointed and unrelated are actually describing salient world events. In the first Gulf War, the Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein, invaded the neighboring state of Kuwait and was a threat to other nearby Arab countries. Several countries came together to build up an allied military force in the area to drive Iraqi out of Kuwait. A couple of months of air strikes ensued to prepare for ground operations. The ground war was very swift. It lasted only a hundred hours. The allies suffered about a thousand killed. Iraqi, however suffered many thousands killed as they evacuated Kuwait. In an effort to counter this vast force, Saddam tried to provoke Israel to join the war effort against him. He expected the other Arab nations would not fight alongside Israel. He was hoping the Arab nations would leave the allied forces and perhaps join him. He did this by launching Scud missiles into Israel. It was feared at the time that these missiles contained biological or chemical agents. But, they seemed to contained only conventional explosives. Israel did not take the bait. They did not join the war effort and Iraqi was driven out of Kuwait. A description of this is found in the Book of Psalms. Psalm 91 5 Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; [nor] for the arrow [that] flieth by day; 6 [Nor] for the pestilence [that] walketh in darkness; [nor] the destruction [that] wastest at noonday. 7 A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; [but] it shall not come nigh thee. 8 Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked. The Scud missile looks like an oversized arrow. It was used at all hours of the day. It was feared it may carry a chemical or biological agent, a pestilence. On a map, Iraq and Kuwait are to the right of Israel. Israel was not drawn into the war. The force build up, Desert Shield, was in 1990. The war, Desert Storm, was in 1991. In World War II, even when Germany was loosing the war, they stepped up their effort eliminate the Jewish people from the European continent. The cry of the Jewish people is found in the Psalms. Psalm 44 11 Thou hast given us like sheep [appointed] for meat; and hast scattered us among the heathen. 22 Yea, for thy sake are we killed all the day long; we are counted as sheep for the slaughter. World War II began in September 1939 and ended in Europe in May 1945. Another feature is the use of the same phrase in different chapters. Psalm 14 and Psalm 53 1 The fool hath said in his heart, [there is] no God… Joseph Stalin began his rise to power in the Bolshevik party in 1914 and died the leader of the U.S.S.R. in 1953. This was a nation that did not believe in the existence of God and treated the Jewish people and Christians badly. There are a hundred and fifty chapters in the Book of Psalms. The observable pattern is to add nineteen hundred to the chapter number and it gives the Christian year it is describing. There are three basic types. The Gulf War example is a chapter that is accomplished in a single year. The holocaust started slowly and grew rapidly as the war progressed. Chapters 38 through 44 reflect this harsh treatment. This example extends over multiple consecutive years. The last example shows a connection which covers decades. Applying this technique to the remaining chapters produces more than a yearly forecast of future events. It contains the battle plan for the defeat of the unseen evil ruler of this world and the establishment of the Kingdom Of God.
