The next villager to knock on Oscar's door was a short, stout man. He carried a basket of oval shaped hollow fruits. "Sir, my name is Jacob and I've brought figs. they can be eaten fresh from a harvest or can be enjoyed dried. If you look closely inside a fig, you'll see many small golden seeds which resemble blood cells. Figs are a great source of potassium, a mineral which helps control blood pressure in our bodies." "Fascinating!" remarked Oscar. "I didn't know such a nutritious fruit could be eaten any time of year." He popped a fig into his mouth and enjoyed the rich, sweet taste. Oscar thanked Jacob and waited for the next contestant to arrive.

Oscar, a wealthy man from a small village, has a chef who prepares the fanciest meats and the sweetest desserts one could imagine. But, they do not satisfy him. He yearns to find a new food that satiates and excites him. Oscar decides to hold a contest in his village to find that one special food. He soon learns that the most simple fruits and vegetables growing in the orchards and fields right in his own village are not only healthy but taste good too. Oscar then discovers that each fruit and vegetable provides its own unique benefit. This story is entertaining and educational, while conveying many important lessons about nature’s gifts.

P’nina Seplowitz is a dedicated wife and mother of three from New Jersey. She has been working in the online marketing industry for over a decade, but has always had a deep passion for writing. This is her first children’s book and hopes to continue publishing more in the future.
