The dragon had shimmering purple and teal scales covering her body. Her wings spanned twice the length of my house, and her head alone was at least seven times as big as me. Her body was so long that I couldn’t even see the end of it. The dragon lifted her head toward me, and I jumped back a few steps. In a low voice, the dragon said, “Do not be afraid, little one.” I thought I was hearing things---everyone knew dragons did not speak. I hesitated for a moment and then asked, “Did you speak to me?” The dragon smiled weakly and said, “Yes, child. Because you are pure of heart, you can understand my language.”

About the Book
Charlie is a rambunctious girl who loves to be outside. While walking in the woods, she heard a terrible noise and decided to follow the sound. To her amazement, she came face-to-face with a beautiful dragon. Although she was scared, she wanted to help the creature. Charlie stumbled backward when the dragon spoke. She was amazed that she could understand her. The journey began as Charlie was given the egg. The dragon trusted her to care for it.
About the Author
She is a mother of three, a full-time student, and a full-time worker. She is teaching pre-kindergarten and is finishing her degree to become a teacher for early childhood. Her children inspired the book.
