About the Author
John H. Atwood, an educator with a bachelor of science in elementary education and a master’s degree in education, has been writing for years. Focusing primarily on academic journals, his emphasis has been on the critical analysis of school systems. After thirty years of committing himself to teaching, administration and designing student-based conflict mediation programs, John has retired. After retirement, he spent several years presenting educational workshops at local universities. This wealth of experience has led him to develop a series of children’s books with his daughter. With a bachelor of arts in communication and a master of fine arts in film, Jenean Atwood Baynes currently coordinates the Pitch Pit for NATPE’s PitchCon: the premiere Hollywood destination for independent content producers/creators. She is responsible for booking 50+ top-level agents, broadcast, cable, digital and studio development executives and scheduling over 500+ pitch meetings. And she works with NATPE’s Educational Foundation to help prepare college students to enter the world of broadcast journalism. Jenean is a writer/producer who started her career in reality TV. In 2000, she formed Atwood Legacy Enterprises with her father and together they self-published Blue Spots! Yellow Spots! This was the first book from the Land of Dushkin, a series of children’s books created to reach youth with universal themes of tolerance, cooperation and good citizenship. This journey took them to book signings at Barnes and Noble, Borders and the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books. Finally embracing her inner comedienne, she started doing stand-up comedy in 2007 and has performed at places such as The Comedy Store, Ice House and the Hollywood Improv. Originally placing them on separate paths, their careers have led them home to Atwood Legacy Enterprises and . . . the Land of Dushkin. Now, they invite children to see that learning can be fundamental and fun. “We believe it is important that parents and other adults read to and with children. When children model this behavior, the joy of reading is passed on to future generations.”
