About the Book

Harold the Misfit was once just a goofy drawing on a page of a sketchbook, but he had a story that was waiting to be told. Harold the Misfit is a story of a critter that is part dog, zebra, turtle, bird, and lobster. He doesn’t fit in with the other kids at school due to his strange looks. One day, Harold’s class goes on a field trip to outer space. While on the trip, the class’s spaceship malfunctions; however, Harold is able to save the day—thanks to the characteristics that make him unique. From that point on, the class learns that although Harold may not be like the rest of the students, his uniqueness is what makes him so wonderful.

About the Author

Caitlin is a college student majoring in computer science; however, she has always had a passion for creative writing and art. She began writing and marketing children’s books when she was seventeen years old and was very successful in doing so. Her artwork tells a story of its own, and Harold the Misfit was once a sketch in her sketchbook that was brought to life by his poetic story of courage and embracing what makes him different. The story speaks out against bullying and encourages children to embrace the characteristics that make them different from others. Caitlin has spoken to students at various elementary schools about the process of creating a book like Harold the Misfit and also gave art lessons on how to draw misfit critters such as Harold. Caitlin is a strong believer in being unique and being one’s self no matter what others say or think. Personally, she loves to use her unique characteristics to make people laugh. Caitlin grew up in Lake Elmo, Minnesota, and loves to participate in sports such as soccer, hockey, rugby, track, and volleyball. She spent two years at the University of Minnesota–Twin Cities, but went on to pursue a degree in computer science and Spanish at the University of Wisconsin–River Falls. She has a wonderful, supportive, loving family that consists of her older brother Ryan, and her parents Mike and Michelle. She is very thankful for the support of her family and gives her mom credit for bringing Harold to life; her mother was the one who noticed Harold in her sketchbook and suggested that he would be a perfect character for a children’s story. Caitlin would like to thank her followers and supporters—she couldn’t do any of this without all of you!
