About the Book
After finding not a plate of cookies but a jar of honey in a sleepy Colorado home, Santa Claus suspects a beekeeper may live under its roof. In this Rocky Mountain twist on a Christmas classic, Denver beekeeping teacher and bee rescuer Gregg McMahan, known locally as the Bee Guru, creates a tale of holiday cheer for beekeepers in Colorado and everywhere. With fourteen beautifully hand-painted illustrations by sister and brother team Mollie and Stephen Schultz, Christmas Honey is a loving tribute to honeybees, beekeepers, and anyone who appreciates the unmistakable goodness of honey.
About the Author
Gregg McMahan is a Colorado-based beekeeper and cofounder of Rocky Mountain Bee. He caught the “bee fever” in 2005 and has since taught an estimated 3,300 children and adults about the plight of the honeybee. Many also caught bee fever, becoming backyard beekeepers. He’s rescued more than 150 beehives from certain extermination (“Oh no, bees in the barn!”) by safely removing each hive and reinstalling it where it’s wanted. He’s a frequent speaker on the topic of honeybees and is impassioned about the need to work together, scientifically and in our own backyards, to help preserve and expand a safe, productive environment for bees. In 2013, Gregg’s passion for honeybees and their keepers will be featured prominently in a documentary called Bee People, which aims to encourage more people to become backyard beekeepers.
