About the Author
Alberta was born in Washington, DC, on November 27, 1926. She was the third child of Albert Irvin Cassell and Martha Ann Mason Cassell. Alberta married Francis Edward Butler on December 26, 1949. To this union were born two children, Karl and Mira. She attended DC school, James Monroe Elementary School and Garnet Patterson and Bannerker Junior High Schools and graduated from Dunbar High School in 1944. Alberta worked in her father’s architectural firm for two years and subsequently became a naval architect with US Naval Sea Systems command. Alberta is a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, the Alpha Alpha Gamma Society for Women Architects, the Association of Scientist and Engineers (US Navy), and the Association of University Women. After her retirement, her greatest joys were trips to Rhode Island’s rocky beaches with the love of her life Francis, photographing butterflies and rose, time with the Titus 2 women’s ministry, and writing and illustrating children’s books titled The Little White Butterflies and Orangey and Purpley.
