Aklog Birara is currently President of ABRAW Center for Inclusive Development in Africa, a new think tank launched to address critical development issues in Africa, with special focus on the Horn. Until recently, he taught as an adjuct professor of political economy at Trinity University and lectures around the country on various current topics.
He holds a Ph.D in development from the Johns Hopkins University. Dr. Aklog served as Economic Advisor to the National Bank of Ethiopia; as Director of Economic Research at the same insitution; and as General Manager of the Commercial Bank of Ethiopia. His career spanning more than 35 years includes as Economic Advisor to USAID in Cameroon and Chad; as manager, economist and Senior Advisor with the World Bank Group for 30 years.
He has written numerous articles and authored four books: yedemocracy meseret in Ethiopia in Amharic; Roots for Democratization; Waves; and his most recent book, The Great Land Giveaway, all produced over the past 6 years.
