THE BLACK, THE BLUE AND THE GOLD Maybe it was their curly black hair all covered with dust, that reminded the Indians of the hair of the Buffalo. Maybe that's why they called them the Buffalo Soldiers, anyway that's just the way the story goes. DEAR MAMA The Chaplain is writting this letter because as you know I never learned to read or write. I am afraid we have a little bad news, you see my old pony fell with me last night. Now the surgeron, he done told me that I most likely won't be around to the the bugler play the sweet notes of reveille come the break of day. So if you will, please put in a word for me with the Master the next time you kneel to pray. PONY TRACKS It was to Fort Gibson they came, fresh from the fight on the eastern plains of Kansas. Their pony tracks could be seen in the snow. History would be made by them in this territory that would be called Oklahoma, but at this time that was something they did not know. THE BALLAD OF EMANUEL STANCE When the Indians saw them coming the made a final mistake, they choose to stand and fight and not break and run. Why should they be afraid of this little handful of Buffalo Soldiers being lead by a kid, when they had them out numbered two to one. They had no way of knowing when they made the decision not to run that they were taking a terrible chance. The Cavalry had two surprises, the first was the 56 caliber repeating carbine, called the Spencer. The other was little Sgt. Emanuel Stance.

About the Book
Ebony Horse Soldiers tells the stories of the Buffalo Soldiers in poetic fashion. The book is written about the history of African Americans in the military during the Indian War period. This is a subject that has not been properly explored by the national media.
About the Author
The author is more than just a cowboy poet and Western reenactor. He is an interpreter of history with special emphasis being given to that history that was made by African Americans during the Indian War period. For twenty-one years he has been a living history interpreter of the Buffalo Soldiers at the National Historical Landmark Museum at Fort Sill, Oklahoma.
