About the Book

This book recalls the most important historical events related to Chinese Buddhism in the past hundred years since the establishment of the Republic of China by Dr. Sun Yat-Sen in 1911. The footprints of the best-known Buddhist masters of this century are vivid descriptions of how Buddhism was revived in spite of political turmoil in the mainland. It tells how cultural development and the modern media have had a strong impact on the popularity of key Buddhist schools like the Pure Land Belief. There is also coverage on Buddhism in Taiwan and Tibet, which has played a more positive role in the spread of Buddhism in the Western world.
