DARNELL’S ANGEL

Angel, Mama called, who is that at my door, tell your little friends you will be outside after you do your chores. Now, girl quit standing there daydreaming, snap out of it before I snap you out of it. Oh my gosh, I mumbled walking away so Mama would not hear me, but of course her ears are like a radars, they hear everything. What you say girl don’t have me embarrass you in front of your friends. Mom, please stop doing this to me, they already know you don’t take no mess I said, with a mean look on my face to let her know I am getting older and I am tired of her being so embarrassing. As I go to open the door Mya, Trina, and Rae Rae was already standing back 25 feet cause they know how Moms get down, she don’t play. I can’t come out right now but I will be out as soon as I finish my chores. Ok, the girls said as they walked off and continue to walk to Rae Rae’s house cause she stays around the corner from me. I closed the door and continued to walk upstairs so I can do my chores and let my Mother get ready for work. I did my chores so fast you would have swore that Merry Maids came with about 5 people and they gave us a speed special. In came my mother with one of her speeches that she always give, she give them so much I know what she is going to say before she says it. See those little girls don’t have chores, they parents just let them do whatever they want to. That is why Rae Rae got caught last summer with a party going on in her parents house while they was on vacation my mother said. Mama why you always bring that up about her, that is not all what she’s about. My mother keeps on talking and saying the same thing that she says over and over. “Now you wait and see, it is going to be a matter off time before they be running around with babies. Instead of their parents being a parent, they try to be their friend. That is why I stay on you and your sister so you will know how to be independent and make something out of yourself. Sheila get over here and tell your sister how It took one time for me to embarrass you before you knew I meant business, mama said. Sheila did not want to get involved, she hated getting into me and moms spats because she knew mom would use her to tell me things that she went through. I am so glad Sheila had actually been on my side this time, Sheila said mama you can not expect Angel to walk a straight line and do every thing you say without her making her own mistakes. Momma was like if I asked you for your opinion then you could have made a smart remark like that. But you did put me in it mom and that is why I don’t like to get involved because sometimes you don’t like what I have to say. Anyway have a nice day, I love you mom and Sheila kissed me on the cheek and said bye sis see you later, and out the door Sheila went to work. I always said I can’t wait until Sheila gets her place, then I possibly could move with her. My mother had a problem of throwing water on a hot fiery dream, Angel did you hear me? Oh yes I heard you, know you did not oh I heard you loud and clear mom. Girl I see right now I am going to have to call your dad cause me and your smart ways are not going to work here. Why would you do that when dad has his own family to deal with, he don’t have time for me or Sheila. I seen Tracy last week and she asked me when I was coming over and I told her I would see, but what I really wanted to say was girl please I know we sisters and all but your dad don’t worry about us. Momma looked at me with a smile and did not say anything and the way she looked at me was like she was looking at herself. When my dad left us and divorced momma it was like he through us away and never looked back except for our birthdays and Christmas. My dad made sure we had a check every month to cover our needs like we were a bill cause momma was not letting him get off that easy. See my dad works for a huge Law Firm and makes a lot of money, so him and mom agreed that he still pay for her mortgage and what ever we need. The time when we were altogether we was happy until my dad did not come home one night and said he was at the office doing work, yeah right moms was not going for that. The morning he came home was the morning moms had his bags on the front lawn with the locks changed. My mother told us what happened and when we asked daddy he tried to blame it on my mother putting him out was the reason he left. See my mother was very strict but she was a beautiful loving and kind wife that any man would love to have. I finished my chores and headed down to Tina’s house and rung the doorbell. Tina answered the door and everybody was glad I was there, but around the corner in the living room I noticed Meagan and Rochelle were there.
