The Purpose of the Ministry of Helps
What Part Do You Play?
34And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teacher, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues”
I CORINTHIANS 12:28
This scripture identifies the Ministry of Helps as a supernatural ministry. It is listed among such things as miracles and healings. It is a gift that God has set in the church like a concrete pillar. It is like a strong column that God has placed in the church so that it can function properly.
You may think that you only go to church to worship God; however, you also got to be trained and taught the ways of God, so that you can learn how to become an effective witness outside of your church.
You have a purpose in your church. You should not be there just because you have some free time during the week. You should understand that you need to be there because God has something he wants you to do for Him. In the same way God called your pastor to the pulpit, He has called you to do something special for His Kingdom. Your calling begins by understanding how you relate to the divine order that God has established in the church.
"And he gave some, apostles: and some, prophets: and some, evangelists: and some, pastors and teachers...”
In every church, God has appointed one man to oversee the sheep, or to teach and train His people. Everyone else at the church has been called to serve this man and do the work within the ministry.
If you have been called to the Ministry of Helps, then you should be giving some type of assistance, directly or indirectly, to the man that God has appointed as true overseer. If you are not helping in some way, not supporting your pastor totally in his work, then you are causing a problem within your church. If you feel that you have indeed been called to attend and support your church, you should not be a problem; you should be an asset. You should be assisting your pastor and not hindering him or the work that God has called him to.
When God began to reveal to me that everyone in the church is to support the pastor, I saw my responsibilities clearly. God's instructions were simple. I was to support my pastor wholeheartedly.
You need to have this same attitude if you desire to walk in God's best. If you are attending a church (which you should be doing), you must decide that you will serve your pastor by working somewhere within the church. If you agree to do this, then God will start moving you toward your ultimate calling.
When I first started working at my church, I knew that God had called me to personally serve my pastor. I was to become a Pastor's Personal Aide, or a P.P.A. I knew that God had called me to become like Joshua was to Moses; Elisha was to Elijah and the armor bearer was to Jonathan. However, at the time began to serve at my church; my pastor did not need me to be his P.P.A at that time; but God had already given me a revelation on servanthood, I simply found a need and met it. I found out that my pastor needed an Audio Technician; so I became one
