Old king Optimist the Third had a problem. Not a serious problem let it be said but one that he felt badly needed resolving. And as time marched steadily onwards he felt that a solution was needed more than ever. So he decided to discuss it seriously with a number of High Officials of State. To this end he put together a list of those of whom he proposed to involve. He would of course put any conclusions before her Majesty his wife for her (essential) approval. So what then of the problem that was troubling his mind and interfering with his normally tranquil sleep. Well it was one which might affect the whole of the future of the state. It was - WHO SHOULD MARRY HIS LOVELY DAUGHTER THE PRINCESS ROYAL – ELLUISE?

Herein is collection of twelve very different short stories, each in its own way illustrating the ability of our old friend Fate to interfere with the best-laid plans that we humans can devise—sometimes for the good, and sometimes for the disastrously bad. For example, “A Royal Issue” tells of the king’s difficulty in selecting a suitable husband for the royal princess. How will they choose the right one from such an unpromising list of available males? Or that of a weather disaster that turned into a riot that turned into a bonus in the story entitled “Zoo.”
