About the Book
This book has highs and lows that will keep you reading for many hours. It begins when a death occurs in the height of civility and moves through the prairie forts and towns toward war in California. In those days, it was war just to get through hostile Indians, wild bulls, lack of food, fires, and more. Not only does this require determination and creativity, but it is built on real people and real events. See how the brave battalion and one woman made their way through all the dangers to be reinforcements in San Diego during the Spanish American War.
About the Author
Ms. Hammond is a retired English teacher who grew up in Montana and loves all historical fiction. She spends her summers fishing and riding and loves mountains and rivers. She even participated in a survival camp as a Senior Scout and can get along in the woods with little support. She has no children but thinks of all her past students as her children. She noticed that there were few really fun reads for boys. Girls had more chapter books, but boys didn’t have many to read. She wrote this so everyone would have something else fun to read.
Before she was a teacher, she was a marketing executive for several multinational financial services companies and had a chance to travel the world. She has many stories to tell, and although this is her first, it won’t be her last.
