Dixie Mountain Mystery

It was starting to get dusk by now; it was dark inside of the cabin. The owner walked slowly into the center of the one large room, and found a long string hanging from a light and turned it on. I remember thinking thank goodness it has electricity! As light filled the one and only room we saw and old iron cook stove covered with dust and spider webs. Sitting by the door a small cupboard with three shelves stood in the far corner. An open stairway led to one large bedroom that had a small window to let in the light. The inside of the roof was covered with tarpaper, which was torn in places. There was so much dust, you could see everywhere we touched or walked. I was getting very doubtful now, especially when we found there was no plumbing, “of course.” The back part of the cabin that was built back into the hill was not livable. So it was just the main part of the cabin to make it livable. Oh my! About 20 yards from the cabin was an old-fashioned hand pump sitting on a wooden platform, next to it was a small delightful pond.
