Where the Truth Lies

Light was pouring in through every window in the church. The floor was covered in flower pedals, leading the way to the Alter where my future was waiting. I couldn’t bring myself to look up. One step at a time, I made my way to the front of the church until a familiar voice asked, “Who is giving this woman away?” “Her Mother and I are.” Gently, my dad kissed my hand then placed it in a waiting hand in front of me. My grandpa continued speaking. “Ladies and gentlemen, we are gathered here in holy matrimony to celebrate the union of this young couple. My granddaughter, Samantha, and her groom to be, Paul.” I shot up out of bed in a cold sweat. Why does my mind have to keep doing this to me? Tears flowed freely down my face as I sobbed at the memory of the dream. “Are you okay in here?” “No, I can’t take this anymore. I can’t do the dreams, or the nightmares. I can’t stand the memories or the possibilities. I just can’t take it anymore. Why did this have to happen?” No matter how much I wanted to, I couldn’t stop talking. “It’s okay Sam, you’re not alone. Just let it all out. I’m here for you.” I didn’t care anymore if everyone seen my pain. David sat on the bed beside me and let me bury my head in his lap until I finally cried myself to sleep.
