Carly recognized the dream immediately. Part of her, her spirit self, just like in the tunnel, walked in the warm late June night down a path in the woods near the lake. Carly knew her actual body lay in a warm bed at camp but the other part of her walked. She took a well-concealed side path and the vegetation became very thick. The trees also bent inward making walking even more difficult. Carly realized that her real life body would have a difficult time negotiating this path. She would have many scratches from the vines and bushes and bites from the swarming mosquitos. Finally walking through what appeared to be a vegetation wall, Carly emerged into a small clearing in front of a large cave. “The moment she did so, Carly could felt the immense power coming from the cave. Fear gripped Carlybut her legs with a will of their own moved Carly toward the cave. Someone else or thing had control over her spirit. A faint chanting greeted her the moment she stepped inside. The cave walls showed the reflection of a strong red light. Ten meters inside Carly turned a corner and came upon a terrifying sight. A strange carved stone about two meters in height pulsated, sending powerful beams of red light in every direction. A group of robbed people sat in a semi-circle around the stone, the most prominent a man with horns on his head. In the middle of the semi-circle Elizabeth’s spirit glared at Carly. Elizabeth’s eyes shared the crimson color of the idol’s light; her teeth had become fangs and her fingernails claws. Elizabeth no longer looked human, but rather like a demon from Hades. Elizabeth spoke in a powerful voice, rasping each word. “Welcome Carly. Because of your gift, I can communicate directly with you from a distance unlike the rest of your Fab Four and the Key Girls and Boy. They can only feel my presence if I want them to do so. Rachel of course can hear me but I have no need to speak with her now. The great one has allowed me to return and these worshippers have lent their considerable assistance in making it happen. “Now that I have returned, I intend to re-create with the help of this powerful shrine, the World in Between and imprison the Fab Four and all the Key Girls and Boy inside. Rachel won’t, however, be allowed to return. Once in there, I will spend the rest of eternity torturing all of you without the interference of Rachel, who will die soon enough from old age.

With that, Calico turned around and growled at the soul eater. Barbara and Constance reluctantly resumed their flight. They knew their friend Calico had the only plan that would work. The soul eater laughed and said, “Silly cat, you are a little ball of fur with tiny teeth and small claws. I will take your soul to Hades. I’ll enjoy smelling your fur burn in the eternal fires.” “Not before I tear out your red eyes,” Calico challenged. The soul eater, now close to Calico, stopped and started taking enormous breaths. Calico’s soul began to move toward the beast, but Calico strongly held on to his soul, his entire soul body straining against the powerful beast. Soon a light appeared above Calico. Calico, laughing, said, “Heaven has always been my destination. I’m not going to your world, soul eater. I’m going to heaven.”
About the Author
I have self-published with this title seven books and one collection of short stories. Three of those books, including this one, fall in the category of juvenile to child fiction. Elysia, published with Trafford, is a gold seal title. I have a master’s degree in child study and taught children with disabilities when I was young. I took creative writing classes as a college student. I also have two children and two grandchildren. I am a lawyer and represent companies before governments. In writing this book, I received help and guidance from my wife’s eleven-year-old grandniece, who wants to be a writer someday. She approached me with the idea of the locks on a fence, which she sees every day on her way to school. The story took off from there.
