About the Book

This book is about a curious young koala bear named Kevin. Kevin is tired of spending his days in a eucalyptus tree with his mother and other koala bears. He wonders about life beyond this tree. Therefore, one day he decides to climb down from the tree and go exploring. ... He soon discovers the animals that live nearby: a wombat, a kangaroo, an emu and a Tasmanian devil. He sees how they look, how they live and what they eat. He soon decides that life in a eucalyptus tree with his family is a good one for him.

About the Author

Dolores Vician is a retired schoolteacher. She earned a bachelor of science and a master’s degree in education. After retiring, Dolores and her husband, Ed, spent a month in Australia. There they had many opportunities to observe and learn about the native animals, such as koala bears, wombats, kangaroos, emus, and Tasmanian devils. The result is this book, Kevin Koala Leaves Home. Dolores has previously written a children’s book, Witch Wun, as well as a book which gave a chronology of her family’s camping trip from Illinois up the Alaskan Highway to Anchorage, Alaska, and then to a remote Eskimo village, Bethel, where they spent an adventurous year. The title of that book is An Alaskan Adventure.
