About the Book
Sullivan Manning is a "young man not fully primed for life," an intelligent, amiable, and decent suburbanite in his third year at rural Wellsview College. He has an array of friends and companions, many of them Christians like himself and many on similar quests to excel. In his struggle to gain a complete sense of the consequences of his actions and prepare for life beyond the ivory tower, Sullivan finds his biggest enemies are complacency and self-will.
When he hears strange noises coming from the "Shrub" on his first night back at school, the placid shell he has built around himself begins to crack. he and his friend James Dawson, the ambitious editor-in-chief of the campus newspaper, begin to wrestle with the possibility that something very sinister may have been unleashed in Wellsview. As they stumble into the "Shrub story" circumstances don't add up, but the harder they try to unearth answers the more disturbing and dangerous their once-tepid college lives seem to become. Are Sullivan and James imagining a dark conspiracy to spice up their "no-so-real" world experiences, or is there a real organized threat to the well-being of Wellsview's students and faculty? Will Sullivan meet and surpass expectations? What will James find at the end of his highly-placed ambitions? Will the two young men succeed in the classroom and with the opposite sex as they come face to face with a series of unexpected and unexplained challenges?
