About the Book

‘Seasons of the Heart’ is a book about the joys and pain of life, the poetry of life. We will face many experiences in our lifetime that will at times resemble seasons. Some will bring us great joy like the warmth of spring and summer. Others will settle in like autumn and bring a sense of fulfillment. When winter comes, and it will, our heart will break. But we will endure, we must. Writing the poems in this book has helped me make sense of a difficult childhood, share my feelings about love, marriage, family, loss, faith and hope. The poems in this book are the poetry of my life. This book gives a brief glimpse into my life, into the seasons of my heart. It is not all inclusive but merely a snapshot. I want to share a small part of who I am with you.

About the Author

I was born Kathryn L. Flynn in St. Louis, Missouri. My childhood was not an easy one and we were constantly on the move. When I was 11 years old we settled in Texas. I attended Junior High and High School in Waco, Texas. After high school I moved to Austin where I met and married my husband. We moved to Indiana a few years later where I attended Indiana Vocational Technical College in Fort Wayne. I majored in Early Childhood Development and Education. Upon completion I worked as a preschool teacher with the Head Start Program for 2 years. Although I love children and teaching I switched careers and worked in the mental health field for the next 30 years. Writing has always helped me make sense of the tragedies I have faced in life. As a teenage I put my thoughts and feelings on paper. Writing helped ease the pain associated with childhood memories. As an adult writing helps me deal with new sorrows that are a part of life. I believe life teaches us lessons we can never learn in a classroom. There are poets and great writers out there from all walks of life with limited education who have something to say. They should say it and we should listen. The poems in this book span many decades. Writing about my experiences in life has helped me heal. I spent my whole life searching for a family and home, that one true love and a personal relationship with God. I believe my poems reflect that. They are not elegant but they are heartfelt, sometimes childish, sometimes insightful. They are all based on experiences in my life, the good and the bad. My life’s experiences helped mold me into who I am today. I like who I am and I believe those who know me like who I am as well. We really can’t ask for much more than that.
