About the Author

I was ahead of my time. I was fearless, driven, complacent, complicated, and compelling. Who I am has nothing to do with my art and its form. Life is made up of all the wonderful customs, cultures, foods, and people who enter our lives, shape us, teach us, and prepares us for the future. Everyone is special. Everyone has a gift and a purpose. People have inspired me to stop making excuses, worrying, obsessing, and overthinking. Why in the hell does it matter so much? After my last failed attempt to cook Guianese food with Cassareep, I learned something in my tears: As I was crying near the Brown Betty noodles, I realized I can’t be afraid to fail (even this recipe that I had no clue how to cook). If you don’t face the unknown, how can you feel alive playing it safe? Be brave.
