The great reward...
Peter and I are finally in the plane! As soon as the hand luggage is safely stored, we sit down side by side and secure our safety belts. I take Peter’s hand and say:
"Darling, I know that I have been a real bunch of nerves and hard to get along with these past two weeks and I am sorry for causing you all that trouble. At this instant I can tell you that we are really and truly on vacation. You know my Love, I was so afraid that something would come up and prevent us from realizing our dream! I was so stressed not to be able to take this plane! Please try to understand Darling. It really was not easy! Now this is our reward: we are both sitting in first class! If only you knew how happy I am, you have no idea… I can assure you that we are going to realize the trip of our dreams. I can even confirm that we are going to make the entire trip, I am sure of it, I can even feel it!"
"Sweetheart, not only am I very happy to hear you talk like this, but most of all, I feel revived. I have really been worried about you these past two weeks. You were so nervous, so tense and so scared! I even asked myself if we were going to be able to take this plane. But to hear you talk like this now, I can see that you are feeling better and as you so rightly said:
‘Here we are sitting side by side in first class and ready to fly!’
I to am convinced that we will have a very good trip! As we promised to one another, let us make this trip the trip of our dreams, the trip of our lifetime! A trip that will hold wonderful memories! It will be such great pleasure to relive them all. If only you knew how happy I am to realize this trip with you!"
Shortly after, the stewardess comes towards us and offers us a glass of champagne. This time Peter and I stay seated and safely secured to make our toast. We cross arms (like newlyweds) and together say:
"To our dream trip and may the Good Lord guide our every step!"
We sip our champagne happy and overwhelmed!
We are sitting in the plane; the motors are rolling; the plane is moving and; it is take-off!
I become white then I turn green! I guess the stewardess notices my change of color because as soon as she has a chance to get up, she comes towards me.
She offers me another glass of champagne and says:
"Drink it fast; it will help you feel better! You should not worry, everything will be fine!"
She also offers a glass to Peter. I suppose that she thinks he will need it to be able to survive the flight…
I took the pills that the Doctor had prescribed to help calm me. But despite the pills plus the champagne, I still could not sleep a wink!
The flight is calm and seven hours and ten minutes later, we land at the Charles-de-Gaulle Airport.
In Paris, it is 10H30 a.m. on this sunny Tuesday morning, April 27th, 2004!

About the Author
Born in Montreal in 1942, Francine St. Marseille spends the first five years in an English school and the last six in a French school. Perfectly bilingual she finds a good job and starts her career at the age of 16. Married at 21, they have two beautiful children! The four live in a foreign country for seven years, more precisely on the Ivory Coast. A wonderful experience for all… Separated in 1987, she starts a new life in 1992, when a man gently taps her on the shoulder and asks: "Madame, may I have this dance?”
