About the Book

Clinton Williams was a private in the Union Army when it moved to Mexico for the War of 1846. He served with distinction and at the end of the war accepted his discharge and moved west into the New Mexico Territory. He was appointed sheriff of the town of Bernalillo. After tracking a rustler and bringing back the stolen horses, an attempt was made on his life. He found himself the defense attorney for the accused man, the father of the rustler. Following the trial, he agreed to go back east to look for the wife and daughter of the only black man in town. Finding the two slaves was the easy part. Getting them and four other escapted slaves back across slave states and territories to freedom was difficult but Clint was determined to reunite this family.
