When we got back up on the hillside at the trucks, I looked back out over the river swamp to the hillside beyond. It was a beautiful sight there in the dim of evening. It was a wide expanse of the Broxson family's domain. I could see the grey river swamp around the bed of the river's meandering stream, contrasted against the green of the hillside. Far off on the other side, I could see the patchwork of fields fade into a beautiful horizon. I became filled with deep emotion and wonder. I wondered what would become of me in the years to come. How could I honor this great family of men and women in my own life? I didn't know, but I knew I wanted to. I knew my world would never be like their world. These traditions of hunting here, and this family here, would have to pass, but I knew one thing right there and then, the important and enduring things would not pass. The strength of character they have. The love, devotion and duty to family they have, would not pass. Deep,deep down they are mine. They have given them to me.

About the Book
Hunting at the Old Place is an authentic account of a days hunt with the author's Broxson family hunting party. It describes the old traditional method dog hunters of the South used to supply food for their families. It is more than just a true hunting account. It speaks about the character and love of a traditional Southern family moved from the land they loved by eminent domain to serve the nation in a time of war. It speaks about values long lost in a modern selfish and indulgent society. It speaks about the powerful influence a man of character can have for his children and his grandchildren. The book introduces this family and its setting for a memorial in the appendix.
About the Author
Duane Broxson is a native and resident of Milton in Santa Rosa County Florida. He attended post secondary school at Pensacola Junior College, Troy State College and the University of West florida. He is a retired teacher and currently practices as a laboratory scientist at a local hospital. He is the decendant of the founding pioneers of Milton and Santa Rosa County.
