About the Book

Our protagonist is the seventeen year old Henry Maggleheimer, who is from the small town of Lone Jack, Missouri. Just a year prior, he was determined to set his young course by heading to the Alaskan and Yukon gold fields along with so many others who were smitten with gold fever. The experience up north was predictable; after only one disheartening year, he has sailed with a crew back to the mainland of the United States and San Francisco. Henry Cabot Maggleheimer now finds himself immersed within the Barbary Coast world of 1897’s San Francisco. Many interesting characters are revealed in this worldwind venture through the romantic, yet sordid world of the Barbary Coast: Giselle Hixon (the beautiful daughter of the ship’s cook); the Boatswain (Adam Rhys MacBain, who is one of the last prototypical Barbary Coast pirates of his era); Mountain Fox (an elderly Tolawah Native American); Captain Farnsworth (the English ship captain who safeguards a surprising identity); Clive G. Wilkins (the richest man in San Francisco, and the owner of Pier 49 Enterprises); a young Malamute pup by the name of Rail Wolf, and even an elusive treasure involving Sir Francis Drake. This is a fast paced amusement park ride that takes the reader through many twists and mysterious sub plots; an amazing two days spent in one of the most iconic eras and locations in American history.
