Joe turned to Michael, who was standing patiently by the car. “You’re in good hands, Michael. I know you’re not religious, but I’m going to send prayers, anyway.” Sometimes Michael had a way of looking at people as if he was studying a complex work of art. At the moment, he was scrutinizing Joe. Over the past week, he had time to ponder that look and came to following conclusion. Michael was always trying to figure out if it was safe to let his guard down. Apparently, he had decided to trust Anni. Joe wasn’t as sure about where he stood yet. “If it comforts you to know, I do have a spiritual side.” Michael gave him a quick fist bump. “Thank you for putting up with me. I know I can be an assache sometimes.” “I didn’t view you that way. I saw someone put to a stress test that no one would want.” Michael smiled. “I hope I passed.” He added, “If you’d like a vacation, Maui’s pretty sick.” “Sick?” Michael laughed. “That means sweet. Anyway, you’re always welcome.” He looked at his cell phone and turned to Anni. “I’m getting a text from our pilot. He’s giving us five minutes. Until we land in Maui, he’s our boss.” Anni nodded, turning one last time to Joe. “Stay in touch, okay?” “I already miss you.” For some reason, he suddenly felt misty. He felt someone touch his arm. Michael was next to him, smiling. “I’ll take care of her. She’s in good hands, too. Mine.” Suddenly, he turned away and was hugging Gina. Then, he was off to board the jet. Joe turned back to Anni. “I’m not sure how I feel about that last comment.”

Complications arise when the girl who stole Michael’s heart many years ago returns, and decides to find a way to rekindle their romance. In the meantime, Joe finds himself in a new world that he never dared to imagine. As Joe and Michael’s friendship evolves, they realize the profound effect they have on each other’s life. But time is running out and they must face the moment of truth and find a way to make peace with whatever the future may hold. A love story for this generation, Catch a Falling Star is an emotional journey about surviving losses, trusting again and finding hope. Rhonda Burnaugh has been a behavioral health professional for most of her life, but her first passion was for to be a writer. Catch a Falling Star is her first novel. At home, she volunteers with an animal rescue group, and currently has a pack of six chihuahuas that keep her company while she works. She has three grown children, who are supportive of her dream, and often come up with great ideas for stories.
