CENTURIE'S of WAR'S is a book about wars fought from the 1500's through Iraq today. It starts with England joining the "Eighty-Year-War, on the side of the Dutch Protestant United Provinces, who had declared their independence from Spain. Featuring Sir Francis Drake, a soldier, Slaver, Politician and to the Spanish, a Pirate. During the Elizabethan era Drake was the second ever to circumnavigate the world. The book has a brief mentioning of hostilities and wars during the sixteen hundreds that took place like the Dutch Portuguese and the Franco-Spanish War 1635-1659. There were other wars at that time namely, King William's War and King Phillip's War, The English Colonies vs. France. When we arrived at the 1700's wars, we had the English Colonies again fighting France from 1702-1713. The seven years war with the French and Indian War. The French Colonies vs Great Britain. The Cherokee War vs. English Colonies was brutal and considered one of the bloodiest series in the history of North America. And at last the American Revolution. Thirteen English Colonies Vs. Great Britain, 1775-1783, also known as the War of Independence. The book describes the Thirteen Colonies had grown weary of British tyranny. Beyond the Proclamation and the Stamp Act, were the suppression of paper currency, a deliberate policy to curtail American's freedom, an essential right to humanity. The book features a true history about the warrior Major General Nathaniel Green who was promoted to Brigadier General and given command of seven Regiments from different colonies. Green was stationed in New Jersey at Fort Lee, on the Hudson side. Also, in the late 1700's and early 1800's smaller wars or hostilities were breaking out between US and Creek Indians, the Mexican-American War, the United States of America and the Second Federal Republic of Mexico. It followed in the wake of the annexation of the Republic of Texas. Their is also the Washington Expedition, August 1849, in the heart of Navajo country. The Civil War 1861-1865, was one of the hardest wars the United States ever fought. Ely Whitney, in 1793 invented the "Cotton Gin", a tool that the mills could use to make short staple cotton. In the south cotton was plentiful, its most worthy comity for the colonies and abroad. Therefore, the cotton field proprietor's used slaves for cheap labor to pick the cotton fields, and naturally wanted to keep the slaves. In 1860 Lincoln won the election for US President and due to the unrest of dealing with slavery and that Lincoln was a moderate on slavery. And after the returns, Charleston, South Carolina announced a State convention that South Carolina should secede from the union. The cotton states followed, on the 8th day of February delegates from seceding states met and "The Confederate States of America" was formed. While the North wanted to do away with slavery, the Confederate States wanted to keep them.

In this book you will read a comprehensive history of wars as far back as the 1500's to present day Iraq. This book not only talks about all wars the United States of America was active in, it includes wars two century's before the US became a nation. Also, besides reading about the twelve wars that the United States troops took part in, the author comprised and has written about other events that are of signicent nature such as the Andersonville Confederate Prison during the Civil War. Throughout the book included in each war, is placed a warrior. The author has chosen a warrior for each of the earlier wars that she felt worthy. The later wars like WW II, Korea, Vietnam and so on, she has included a warrior that she was fortunate enough to interview and tell about their military history.
About the Author
Though Irene J. Dumas was born and raised in Trenton, NJ, Irene has been living in Florida since 2004. She lost her first husband a Marine who served in the Korean War, to cancer in1992 and had originally insisted she would never remarry, though she eventually ended up marrying a former U. S. Navy Seabee in 2012. Irene started writing at age sixty-four after retiring from the Department of Environmental Protection. In her precious books, she had gone out and interviewed about 180 plus military veterans and wrote their stories in three different volumes. With the writing of this book she was able spend more time at home. When she first started writing she would have to go to the liberty to research the events that the veterans told her about, now she has her own reference books with a volume of over three hundred books. Besides writing, Irene also enjoys needle work for a past time, she had made many beautiful items that she sold at craft shows and given as gifts to family and friends. The one thing she misses doing now is roller-skating. She use to skate every week at an adult skating session in Kissimmee Florida, but do to problems with her legs had to give it up two years ago.
